Synopsis Based on the hit Tony-award winning stage musical, itself based on a 1988 film, Hairspray is set back in the 1960s, a time of racial tension. Our heroine is a young plumpish girl with a love for dance. She dreams of appearing on a popular television show, and makes it through the auditions. The audiences love her, and she becomes a regular, where, much to her surprise, she finds herself embroiled in efforts to bring blacks onto the show.
